In a meet where no team scores are kept and races are divided by class, the Mt. Vernon Cross Country team entered the race with goals in mind. The runners have been training hard and they needed one final push before taking a short break this weekend. As a result, the runners set their own goals and most were very successful! MV was led by sophomore Mason Hagan in overall time as he ran a season best 23:26 which is about 45 seconds faster than last weekend at Angel Mounds. Next for MV was Junior Malachi Spainhoward who crossed in 25:24. Senior Mason Suits showed grit as he battled through a stomach bug to complete the course in 26:02. Junior Brendan Hubbard missed last weekend, but came through this course 21 seconds faster than his previous best for a 26:19. Sophomore Ryan McCollum accepted the challenge to get uncormfortable as he ran through "everything hurts" to finish in 27:27. The guys will take a short break this weekend before hitting trails at Harmonie State Park on Monday morning. They will be back on the competition trail on September 9 as they return to Angel Mounds for the Mater Dei Invitational.
