The MVHS Lady Wildcats waited out a storm before competing in their season opener at Gibson Southern. The ladies were very competitive with each other and with the opponents at the 3rd Annual Hokum Karem Relays. All 3 of Mt. Vernon's teams finished the relay style course in about 1 minute 40 seconds of each other. As the girls continue to work hard and times improve, this tight team split will truly benefit the team. The team of senior Ashley Lilleston and freshman Makayla Schneider led the 'Cats by placing 19th overall in 37 minutes. Close behind them was the team of junior Brynn Davis and freshman Maddie Abel. They completed the race 24 seconds behind their teammates in 21st place. In 26th place, senior Krissy Bazan along with sophomore Ellie Blackburn ran 38:38. Senior Destin Gentry rounds out the current roster. The girls will be at Princeton on Tuesday to run a 4K and back at the Boonville Invite on Saturday for their first 5K race.
