In the largest invitational they've hosted to date, the MVHS Boys Cross Country team traveled to Boonville High School on Saturday to take part in the annual Boonville Invitational. Memorial won the meet with 59 points. MVHS did not have a team score. In all, there were 19 high school boys teams and a field of 129 runners. Mason Hagan led way keeping pace with his 4K pace from Tuesday. He crossed the line in a final time of 25:24 seconds. Ryan McCollum continues to show improvement as his off-season work in swimming and running helped him to drop over 4 minutes from this race a year ago. Ryan completed the course in 26:47. Mason Suits, Brendan Hubbard and Malachi Spainhoward ran a "timed practice" 3 mile run on Saturday and continue to show great improvement as they learn how to run distance in cross country. Suits, a senior, is right on pace to pick up where he left off his sophomore year. Mt. Vernon Junior High was well represented at the middle school meet at Boonville also. The race had 170 boys toe the starting line. MVJH was led by 8th grader Marcus Riecken in 26th place. 6th grader Wyatt Hoehn was second for the 'Cats finishing in 62nd while fellow 6th grader Logan Greenwell finished 114th. Our future looks bright! The high school guys will be back in action on Saturday, August 26 at the Dennis Bays Invite. The meet is hosted by Evansville Harrison and is run at historic Angel Mounds. It too will be a record-setting event as many schools from the Brown County Semi-state are joining this race.
