In an 18 team, highly competitive invitational, the MVHS Lady Wildcats placed 7th. Winning by way of the 6th place runner (tie-breaker), was Memorial with powerhouse South Knox finishing 2nd. There were over 100 runners in the meet. Mt. Vernon was again led by Senior Krissy Bazan who cut over a minute from last year's time to cross the line is 36th place (24:36). Only 10 seconds behind was Junior Brynn Davis who cut well over two minutes from her time a year ago for a 39th place finish (24:46). Running 3rd for MV and finishing in 45th place was Senior Ashley Lilleston who cut nearly 30 seconds from her time a year ago(24:57). Freshman Makayla Schneider was 4th for MV in her debut at Boonville. She finished in 51st place with a time of 25:14. Sophomore Ellie Blackburn fought through a rolled ankle cutting well over 3 minutes from her time last year to round out our scoring 5 runners. She was 57th overall in a time of 25:42. Just behind her was Freshman Maddie Abel who also ran well in her Boonville Invite debut. She crossed the line in 60th place with a time of 24:49. Unofficially, Destin Gentry completed a 3 mile timed race in 29:37 which is well ahead of her first race from a year ago. I can't stress enough how hard these girls are working and their times are showing improvement every meet. Our 1-5 team split is just over a minute which goes to show how balanced we are and that any of these young ladies can cross the line in first for MV at any meet this season. The teams have chosen, "The Body Achieves what the Mind Believes" as their motto and they are living up to it! Mt. Vernon was well represented in the JH race as well. They finished 12th out of 15 teams and 133 runners overall. MV's Madison Cooper crossed first for the 'Cats in 18th place. The rest of the field was very competitive with the following finishes: Olivia Staib (61); Victoria Poling (71); Paislee Hoehn (75); Addie Blackburn (82); Isabella Benthall (91); Isla Day (100). Great job, Ladies - Keep it up! The high school girls will compete on Saturday, August 26 at the Dennis Bays Invitational. Like the boys' race, the girls will face some of the state's toughest competition as many schools from the Brown County Semi-State will toe the line at Angel Mounds.
