Varsity vs Crawford County (Nineteenth Place) The Mt. Vernon Boys Cross Country team road tripped to Crawford County High School for the annual Crawford County Invitational. With over 22 schools stepping up to the line, Mt. Vernon finished 19th on the "true cross country course." More importantly, each runner either set a season PR or a career PR as they bested times from Angel Mounds just 1 week ago. Although they ran in separate class races, they may as well have run side by side again this week and Mason and Mason led the charge for the 'Cats. Mason Suits held on to the lead completing the course in 23:05.7 cutting 21 seconds from his previous time. Mason Hagan cut 35 seconds from last weekend in completing the course in 23:07.9. Running third and fourth for the Wildcats were a pair of juniors in Brendan Hubbard and Malachi Spainhoward. Both ran gutsy races and it was Hubbard edging out his teammate by a second to finish 3rd for MV (24:00.0). Spainhoward cut 20 seconds from last weekend in completing the course in 24:01.9. Rounding out the scoring and breaking through in a big way was sophomore Ryan McCollum. Ryan not only ran a 1-mile PR, he ran 2.1 miles after that shattering his personal best as he just missed joining the 24 minute club. His 25:04.1 was over 2 minutes faster than last Saturday. The guys continue to push each other and their times are improving because of it. They will continue the hilly course races as they travel to Pike Central next Saturday for the Pike Central Invite.
