Varsity vs Washington - Washington, IN (1 - 2) Loss The Mt. Vernon boys' soccer team wrapped up their regular season on Wednesday night against the Washington Hatchets. The Wildcats jumped out to an early lead within the first five minutes of the game when junior Kyle Lindenschmidt connected with senior Grant Doherty on a goal kick. Mt. Vernon kept playing well and kept pressuring the Hatchets and the defense held strong. Unfortunately Washington scored a goal of their own on a corner kick later in the half. The game remained tied going into halftime. In the second half Mt. Vernon opened up with some good chances to score but couldn't quite get it in. Washington pulled ahead with another goal off of a corner kick. The Wildcats kept pushing forward, but unfortunately ran out of time when the game was paused with 13 minutes left due to lightening. The game was eventually called off giving Washington the victory. The game was the final home game in the careers of seniors Mack Conyers, Grant Doherty, Logan Dutkiewicz, Landon Mitchell, Aiden Paul, and Aaron Weis. The seniors leave as the first class in the history of Mt. Vernon soccer to have a winning record each season of their career. These seniors have worked to put Mt. Vernon soccer on the map. Thank you to each and every one of you for your contributions the past four years. Mt. Vernon looks to keep their season going next Monday when they take on Heritage Hills in the opening round of sectionals.
