MV Sends 4 to IHSGW State Finals!

At the Girls Wrestling Semi-State at Mooresville, the Mt. Vernon Lady Wildcats were just 3 points shy of 2nd place and will send 4 girls to the IHSGW State Finals! Top 5 Team Scores: 1. Mooresville (101) 2. Indian Creek (78) 3. Mt. Vernon (75) 4. Jeffersonville (66) 5. Franklin Community (59) On her way to a 4th place finish, Taylor Mason won by fall over Abril Andres (Jeffersonville) in round 1, and won by decision over Rachel Mills (Franklin Community). In the medal rounds, she was defeated by Sian Rogers of Jeffersonville and Nevaeh Hultgren of Mooresville. In a similar trajectory, Maddie McCarty ended up in 4th place for Mt. Vernon as she won by fall over Reggie Holguin (Columbus North) and won by fall over Kaylee Miles (Terre Haute South Vigo). She fell to Ava Allen of Silver Creek and Laine Mullins of Jasper. Battling for a third place finish, Cammie Ritchie punched her ticket to state in the following manner. She won by falls over Shelbie Hancock (Terre Haute North Vigo) and Brylee Blackwell (Mooresville). She lost in the semifinal to Varzidy Batchelor (Northview) before beating Ayrica Dehart (Edgewood) by decision. Finally for Mt. Vernon, Senior Hannah West went perfect on the day to advance to the next round where she will battle for a 4th title. In round 1, she won by fall over Kylee Arnett (Sullivan) in 41 seconds. In the Quarterfinals, it took only half of that time to win by fall over Harlie Winningham (Jennings County). She again cruised in the Semifinals defeating her opponent by fall over Trista Powers (Terre Haute South Vigo) in 43 seconds. In the 1st place match, Hannah had to battle for a 2-1 decision over her opponent. Jaiah Oneal (Brownsburg) scored first on an escape in the 2nd period before Hannah evened it up in the 3rd and eventually went ahead for the win. Mt. Vernon had two wrestlers who were one match short of advancing to the IHSGW State Finals. Ambryn Siddons nearly missed out on advancing to state as she won by fall over Eva Polley (Southridge) before falling to Eden Knight (Columbus East) in the third period. Likewise, Chloe Schroeder-Lambert won by fall over Madison Oliver Prieto (Decatur Central) in the first round but was eliminated when Mackenzie Weatherford (Borden) beat her in round 2. It was a great showing for our MV Lady Wildcats! We are proud of you and good luck at State!
