For Immediate Release Friday, February 23, 2024 Mt. Vernon High School Student Awarded Prestigious National Honor Society Scholarship  Mt. Vernon, IN – The National Honor Society (NHS) announced that Rylee Schmuck, a high school senior at Mt. Vernon Senior High School and member of NHS, has been selected as an NHS Scholarship semifinalist.  At Mt. Vernon High School, Schmuck has shown impressive leadership skills in organizations such as National Honors Society, Key Club, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Student Council, The American Red Cross, and The United States Air Force Civil Air Patrol. Rylee's dedication and hard work in these activities have positively impacted the community and her school. This fall, she will attend Indiana University Bloomington to study Human Biology and be on the Pre-Med track. Rylee is an exceptionally intelligent and empathetic student who possesses a maturity and dedication well beyond her years. With her impressive leadership skills and commitment to community service, she is sure to make a positive impact on the lives of many in the future. Since 1946, more than $25 million in scholarships have been awarded to outstanding NHS senior members to support college access and student success. The scholarship program is supported by the parent organization of NHS, the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP). In the 100+ years since NHS was founded in 1921, members have been making a difference in their schools and communities, and the NHS Scholarship is NASSP’s way of recognizing the most exceptional of these student leaders.
