Boys Soccer Loses Hard Fought Contest

Mt. Vernon's boys soccer team continued their mid season slide on Thursday night against Gibson Southern losing a nail biter. The Wildcats started the game hot with senior James Basden firing off three shots in the first four minutes of the game. Unfortunately none of the shots made it past the Titan keeper. Mt. Vernon kept the pressure on throughout the first half, and withstood some Titan attacks to go into the break tied 0-0. In the second half the game remained scoreless and evenly matched until Gibson Southern was awarded a penalty kick off a handball. Senior keeper Max Hamrick made a valiant effort to stop the shot, but just barely missed. The goal ended up being the game winner. The Wildcats continued to attack but just couldn't come up with a goal. The Wildcats host the Southridge Raiders on Saturday as the second game of a double header with the girls playing at 10 and the boys at 12.
