Boys Soccer Loses to Harrison

The Mt. Vernon boys' soccer team returned to the pitch on Thursday night to take on a very talented Harrison Warriors team. Harrison took control of the match early on and opened the game with a goal within the first three minutes. It appeared as if it was going to be a long night for the Wildcats. However, the Wildcats responded in a positive fashion and locked down their defense and kept the Warriors from adding to their lead. The defense, especially senior James Basden who shifted from offense to defense, kept the Warrior attack in check. Unfortunately Mt. Vernon couldn't come up with anything in their few offensive chances. In the second half juniors Hunter Watzlavik and Mason Higginson continued to lead the Wildcat defense who kept the game within reach for first 20 minutes before Harrison added their second goal. Sophomore Logan Anderson had the best scoring chance for the Wildcats on the night when he had a break away opportunity and a powerful shot, but the Warrior keeper made a good save to keep the Wildcats off the board. Although the Cats were down, they never stopped fighting. Harrison added two more late goals to finish with the 4-0 victory, but the Wildcats played a strong game defensively against a very strong opponent. Mt. Vernon travels to Heritage Hills to take on the Patriots Saturday morning.
