Mt. Vernon's boys soccer team traveled to Heritage Hills on Saturday to take on a highly ranked and veteran laden Patriot team. The Patriots started 11 seniors on their senior day, compared to 4 for the Wildcats. Heritage Hills scored the opening goal of the game in the first three minutes. Mt. Vernon used that early goal as a wake up call and pulled themselves together and kept the Patriots in check for the next 15 minutes until they scored a goal of their own. The Wildcat goal came off of a corner kick from senior Kyle Lindenschmidt. No one touched the ball, it just curved its way into the goal to give Lindenschmidt his third goal of the year. Unfortunately the Patriots responded with two goals in the next five minutes. They tacked on a fourth goal just before halftime. The Wildcats came out of the break with some more intensity and kept the Patriots from adding to their lead for nearly 20 minutes before they conceded a penalty kick, which Heritage Hills converted. With the game out of reach the Wildcats turned to their bench. Heritage Hills took advantage of the young Wildcats and continued to build their lead. The final score was 10-1 in favor of Heritage Hills. The Wildcats return to action Tuesday when they travel to take on county rival North Posey at 5, and then they host their senior night Thursday against Boonville at 5:30.
