The Mt. Vernon Boys' Soccer team opened their 2025 season on Saturday with a match against conference opponent Forest Park. The Rangers capitalized on a couple of early mistakes from the Wildcats to take an early lead. Senior Mason Higginson got the Cats on the board with his first goal of the season about midway through the first half. After the early miscues the Mt. Vernon defense regained their form and started to get in a flow and kept the Rangers from stretching the lead too far . At halftime Forest Park lead 4-1. In the second half senior Lorenzo Leandri scored his first career goal off of an assist from sophomore Brock McNeese to draw Mt. Vernon closer, but unfortunately that is as close as the Cats would get. The second half was much better for the Wildcats but their early struggles were to much to overcome. The final score of the match was 6-2 in favor of the Rangers. The Wildcats return to action Thursday night when they travel to South Spencer.
