Varsity vs South Knox (4 - 1) Win. The Lady Wildcats played a great game tonight and came away with the win. This was a total team effort that the girls put together. Senior Ella Sponn opened up the scoring 5 minutes into the game with a goal from a cross from Senior Lorelai Boyd. The game stayed 1-0 for the first half with the Wildcat defense anchored by Senior Taylor Ellison and Junior Jaycee Campbell holding South Knox off the scoreboard and catching them offsides 10 times in the first half. In the second half Mt Vernon had a chance when there was a hand ball called in the box off of a Taylor Ellison corner kick. Ella Sponn had a great shot that was saved by South Knox Goalkeeper. Then South Knox answered with a goal of their own. 5 minutes later Senior Lorelai Boyd scored the go ahead goal from a missed opportunity by Ella Sponn and Jaylan York. Boyd was there for the finish to make the score 2-1. The Wildcats answered again with another goal 5 minutes later by Senior Jaylan York on assists from Freshman Olivia Staib and Sophomore Mariah Buchanan. That wasn't the end of the scoring though, in the 65th minute Senior Ella Sponn sent a ball into the box that Freshman Olivia Staib shot it and it was deflected out to Senior Lorelai Boyd for the left footed goal. That sealed the game for the Wildcats and they won 4-1. They are now 5-3 on the season and 2-1 in the PAC. They will return to action with a PAC match up with Tell City on Saturday.
