Girls Varsity Soccer defeats Tell City by a score of 5-1 on Saturday. The Lady Wildcats dominated from the start. In the opening minutes Ella Sponn started the Cats off by dribbling down and getting off a shot but TC keeper made the save. But minutes later there was a hand ball by Tell City 30 yards out and Taylor Ellison nailed the free kick into the upper right corner to put the Lady Wildcats on the board. Tell City responded with a goal of their own on a breakaway that was just inches out of Goalkeeper Alyssa Fendel's reach. In the 36th minute Olivia Staib was able to get a corner kick for Mt Vernon and this time Jaycee Campbell took the corner from the far side of the field and Jaylan York was able to get on the end of it and head the ball into the goal. The score at halftime was 2-1. In the second half the Lady Wildcats has several chances but always seemed to find the Tell City Goalkeeper. About 6 minutes into the second half another foul by Tell City led to another free kick for Taylor Ellison. This time it was from around 25 yards out and again she buried into the far upper corner of the goal for her second of the day. The game continued to see the Lady Wildcats get several shots off but it was a physical game with many fouls. Another corner kick by Taylor Ellison resulted in Paula Martinez's first goal of the season to put the Wildcats up 4-1. The game was extremely physical and in the last 2 minutes Ella Sponn was fouled hard in the box and was rewarded with a PK which she buried in the back of the net. The final score was 5-1 and the Lady Wildcats will return to action at HOME on Thursday against South Spencer.
