The boys' soccer team traveled to Tell City Saturday to take on the Marksmen. Tell City opened up the scoring after a back and forth first ten minutes. They stretched their lead to two just a few minutes later off of a corner kick. Sophomore Jackson Meinschein got the Wildcat's on the board with his first career goal in his first varsity action of the year when he scored off a deflection from the Marksmen goalie. The goal reinvigorated the Wildcats who stepped up their intensity as they drew closer to Tell City. Tell City extended the lead back to two when they scored their third goal of the match. Freshman Wade York brought the Cats back within striking distance with his second goal of the season off a nice pass from sophomore Dillon Kuhn. At halftime the score was 3-2 in favor of Tell City. In the second half both teams stepped up the intensity and physicality. Tell City once again stretched their lead back to two as they scored their fourth goal of the game. With time running short junior Mitchell Ragsdale scored his first career goal off of a corner kick form senior Mason Higginson. This goal gave new life to Mt. Vernon who continued to apply pressure to the Marksmen. With around five minutes in the game the Wildcats were awarded a penalty kick and a chance to tie the game up at 4. Unfortunately the Marksmen keeper made a big save on the penalty kick, and Tell City added a final goal in the last minutes to end the game with a 5-3 victory. Mt. Vernon travels to Gibson Southern on Thursday night looking to snap a 4 game losing streak.
