The Metropolitan School District of Mt. Vernon has scheduled a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Athletic Practice Facility! This event will take place on Friday, January 12, 2024 at 12 pm. The public is invited to attend. This practice facility will have something for every outdoor sport offered by MVHS. The turf floor is about 120' by 120' with a max ceiling height of 40'. The facility will have a protective netting around the walls and on the ceiling. The space is large enough to run routes, take starts, run sprints, work on foot skills and ball handling (soccer). It will boast several retractable batting tunnels via multiple drop down net systems. By using the net in the middle, the floor space can be separated into 2 separate practice areas. In addition, the floor will have plugs to be able to put down either a baseball or softball infield with bases. There will be indoor goals for soccer, a simulator for golf and a block wall painted with 2 nets for tennis serving/hitting. It will have storage for hurdles, jump pits, pitching machines, L-screens, soccer goals, etc, to allow for teams to maximize floor space and proper off-season storage of equipment. An area upstairs will be utilized for teams to warm up while the team on the floor finishes up. We are excited that this vision has come to life. Our teams will be starting the New Year with a new place to go to work. For years our outdoor teams have been extremely limited in what they are able to do when weather doesn't cooperate. With the completion of this practice facility, those hurdles get removed. We are excited to to be able to work in this first class environment and we appreciate the support along the way for the completion of this athletic practice facility.
